Down Home with Brenda Ternes
I met Brenda Ternes many moons ago while shopping at I. Keating Furniture World in Bismarck, ND. For years she would assist me in finding the perfect pieces for my home. During my many shopping visits, Brenda would frequently talk about her dream of opening a local general store. Like those from a small town (she is originally from Flasher ND), Brenda found that the best part of selling furniture was actually helping customers find the ideal home accessories and wanted to continue that passion with her own store. She did just that. After selling furniture for 20 years, Brenda opened Down Home General Store in March of 2019, in Bismarck ND.
Down Home not only has beautiful accessories for your home but many of the products are made by local artisans. Brenda knew North Dakota had some incredible talent and she wanted to have a place to showcase the crafts and work of local people.
Down Home General Store has that definite down-home feel upon entering with the warm aroma of the daily coffee flavor. Brenda immediately greets you with a delicious coffee sample from locally roasted beans to enjoy while browsing.
This quaint little place has so much to offer from home décor, to clothing DallasLee Boutique (which is owned by Brenda’s daughter, LoRetta) along with a variety of unique crafts.
Down Home is a shop that should not be missed especially since it is located on the main street of Bismarck ND.
Brenda is such an inspiration to the community and local business owners. She continued to pursue her dream and didn’t stop until it happened.
